Kaltura Personal Capture

The new Kaltura Personal Capture software is an easy to use tool for recording media.

Recording Options

You can turn any of these options on or off before recording.

  • Capture Screen
  • Capture Video
  • Capture Audio

Basic Recording Workflow

  1. Launch the Recorder
  2. Choose a recording option
  3. Upload the recording
  4. View and edit the recording from your My Media page
  5. Add media to eLearn/Blackboard using the Kaltura Media mashup (optional)
  6. Share direct links with others

Download and Install Software

Follow these steps to download the Kaltura Capture software.

Access from MediaSpace

  • Access MediaSpace at: video.chemeketa.edu
  • From the top of the page, click on the My Media link.
  • Your media will be listed on the My Media page.
  • Click on the Add New button in the top right corner of the page.
  • Select Record Media from the list.
  • From the Kaltura Capture page click on a link to download the software for Windows PC or Mac OSX.
  • Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

Access from eLearn

  • Access eLearn at: elearn.chemeketa.edu
  • after you login click on the Faculty tab at the top of the page > click the Media sub-tab below > click on My Media link.
  • Your media will be listed on the My Media page.
  • Click on the Add New button in the top right corner of the page.
  • Select Record Media from the list.
  • From the Kaltura Capture page click on a link to download the software for Windows PC or Mac OSX.
  • Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

Start a Recording

After you install Kaltura Capture you must click Add New > Record Media from your My Media page to launch the program for the first time. This will connect the application to your Kaltura account and allow you to begin recording. You must follow these steps for each computer you install and use Kaltura Capture.

To create a recording

    1. Click the red button to start recording.
    2. You will see a 5 second count down and then your recording will start.
    3. If you decide to cancel your recording during the 5 second countdown, click Cancel.
    4. When the recording begins, the duration of your recording is displayed in the Recording Menu.

    Saving & Uploading a Recording

    After you "stop" your recording you will be directed to the entry page. If you clicked stop by mistake, you can always click Cancel and you will be returned to your recording in a paused state. If you want to complete the recording, enter the following information and click save:

    • Title of the recording
    • Description
    • Tags

    Select one of the following options after recording:

    • Save and Upload to your My Media page.
    • Save to your local computer only. Upload at a later time from the library tab.
    • Delete your entry.
    • New Recording

    Your recording will be uploaded to your Kaltura My Media page.

    An upload progress bar is displayed and a successful upload message appears when the upload is completed.

    After you save your recording, you can start a new one or log off the computer and the recording will continue to upload.

    Uploading a Saved Recording

    When you Save a recording without uploading it, the Managment window opens with the Edit tab and displays the options to Upload or Delete your media.

    All the recorded videos are stored locally on the computer in the default recording directory (C:\ProgramFiles\Kaltura\Capture\Recordings).

    Delete Old Recordings

    Be sure to Delete your old recordings. Click Delete for each recording you want to remove.


    Add Media to Blackboard / eLearn

    Once you upload media to Kaltura you can then add media to a Blackboard course as a standalone content item (Kaltura Media mashup).

    Follow these steps to add media to a Blackboard course.

    1. Access eLearn at: elearn.chemeketa.edu
    2. Enter your My Chemeketa login when prompted
    3. Select a course from the course list.
    4. Navigate to the course area where you want to add your video.
    5. With Edit Mode On, click on the Build Content button > click Kaltura Media.
    6. Next from the Mashup Gallery page > click the Select button for the media you want to add to your course area.
    7. Enter a required Title and optional Description.
    8. Click the Submit button.
